When you scan your seed packet with your phone's camera, the app recognises the exact variety — whether it's a tomato, courgette, basil, or any other seed in the range — and gives you personalised growing instructions from sowing through to harvest. The scanning works offline too, so you can use it at your allotment or garden even without mobile signal. We're actively working on expanding support for additional seed brands and varieties in a future update.
Is GardenPack really free?
Yes! GardenPack is completely free to download and use. There are no hidden charges, no premium tiers, no in-app purchases, and no adverts. Every feature — including the full growing guide library, smart reminders, AI-powered photo recognition, and chat help — is available to every user from day one. We believe cost should never be a barrier to growing your own food, so we have no plans to introduce a paid tier. The app is funded by Garden Pack seed kit sales, which means we can keep the digital experience free for everyone.
Where does GardenPack work?
GardenPack currently supports the UK and USA, with growing conditions, weather data, and seasonal timings tailored to your specific region. In the UK, the app adjusts sowing dates and care advice based on your postcode, accounting for differences between milder southern areas and the shorter growing seasons further north. In the USA, it adapts to your USDA hardiness zone. We're expanding to more countries soon, starting with other temperate European climates — stay tuned for updates.

The app is optimised for phones, so it's easy to use one-handed while you're out in the garden.
